Dexcom Diary

Checking my glucose after lunch

Technology has completely transformed my life. I’m not referring to a food delivery app that sustained me during quarantine, or how DocuSign helps me with my tax returns, or when my GPS guided me to a friend’s isolated Vermont farmhouse in the dead of night.

I’m talking about my health and well-being.  I recently started using the Dexcom G6 to monitor my glucose, and it has literally changed how I manage my diabetes.

The average diabetic finger-pricks only 1.7 times a day, which provides very little of the data needed to manage the disease.  My Dexcom G6 gives me my numbers 24/7 so I have a remarkable insight into how my body reacts to food, alcohol, exercise and stress.  Prior to using the Dexcom G6, I had no idea how high my readings were prior to sleeping at night, so I’ve adjusted my food and alcohol intake accordingly, because it turned out to be my highest number.

I’ve also learned that certain foods affect me differently, so I’ve cut back on brown rice as well as multi-grain breads.  The Dexcom G6 gives people with diabetes the ability to test how our bodies respond to foods in real time, which is a game changer.  The data makes a difference.  My numbers have improved and with them so has my health.

Applying the Dexcom G6 takes a few minutes and is totally painless, to the point where I forget that I’m wearing it.  It’s like having a life-coach or a medical advisor with you 24/7.
